BigBlue 28W Foldable Portable Solar Phone Charger Review 2021

As a hiking/camping enthusiast, you will often travel through forests, hills, streams and other outdoor environments during days-long periods of time. To ensure that your phone has enough power during this time, a portable solar phone charger has almost become a standard part of your travel bag.

In February, we recommended Sunnybag’s Leaf Pro portable charging pad, which was well received by our readers. Some readers wrote to us asking if there was a portable solar phone charger with higher charging efficiency than the Leaf Pro, because although the Leaf Pro is simple and lightweight, the output power and current are still a bit lower.

When we recommend the Leaf Pro, we mainly consider it based on the fact that the Leaf Pro is the lightest weight portable solar phone charger in the world. Because weight and space are crucial for hiking backpacks, the Leaf Pro fits perfectly in the empty space of a backpack. And the 7.5W output power for charging a cell phone can also guarantee a day of power.

In fact, after recommending the Leaf Pro, we began to study  more power foldable solar phone charger to meet our more charging needs, such as two cell phones or portable power bank.

Today we are recommending BigBlue 28W foldable solar phone charger.

Appearance
First of all, let’s take a look at its appearance.

It has 4 solar panels.
The unfolded size is 840x282x3mm (33x11x0.12in), and the folded size is 282x160x34mm (11×6.3×1.34in). The folded size is equivalent to a book. This size is acceptable.

Power
4 pieces of 7w solar panels, the total power is 28w. It should be noted that this 28w does not represent the USB output power, it refers to the maximum output power of the solar panels. When the output to the usb port, there will be some power loss. This power is about 3 times that of the Leaf Pro.
Conversion efficiency
The conversion efficiency of BigBlue is 21.5%-23.5%, which is comparable to the conversion efficiency of Leaf Pro.
Output Ports

The BigBlue 28W has 3 USB output ports. It can provide a total of 5V4.8A maximum output current and each USB port can output maximum 5V2.4A. This equates to a maximum output power of 24W and has smart charging technology that automatically matches the charging speed to the device.
Compared to the Leaf Pro, which has only one USB port with 7.5W output, the BigBlue 28 can charge 3 devices at the same time, which is much more convenient.

Weight
The weight of BigBlue 28W is 0.58kg (1.3lb), while the weight of Leaf Pro is 0.36kg (0.8lb). Considering that the output power of BigBlue is almost 3 times that of Leaf Pro, the weight control of BigBlue 28W is still good.
Charging time
For hiking/camping enthusiasts, how long it takes to fully charge a phone is one of our biggest concerns. We did a comparison between the BigBlue 28W and Leaf Pro. The BigBlue 28W takes about an hour and a half to fill a phone and 4 hours to fill a 10,000 mAh charger. The Leaf Pro takes about 3 hours to fill a cell phone and 6 hours to fill a 10,000 mAh rechargeable battery.
From the above comparison in all aspects, BigBlue 28W wins in all aspects except size. If you have more than 1 device that needs access to a solar panel for charging and don’t care about a little more size and weight, the BigBue 28W is a good choice.
