We are currently in an era of transition from other lithium batteries such as lead-acid and ternary polymer lithium batteries to LiFePO4 batteries. Because compared to other lithium batteries, LiFePO4 has five distinct advantages.
1. Safety And Stability
LiFePO4 is chemically stable and it is non-flammable, which means it is not prone to thermal runaway (staying cold at room temperature). It can also withstand high temperatures without decomposing, and it is not flammable. You don’t have to worry about it exploding or catching fire in the middle of a job.
2. High Performance and Efficiency
In addition to safety and stability is the primary consideration, performance and efficiency is one of the reasons why LiFePO4 batteries are gradually becoming mainstream.
Charging efficiency: Lithium iron phosphate batteries will reach full charge in 2 hours or less. Self-discharge rate when not in use. Only 2% per month. (compared to 30% for lead-acid batteries).
Higher runtime than lead-acid batteries/other lithium batteries.
Consistent power: Same amperage even at less than 50% of battery life. No maintenance required.
3. Long Life
Lead-acid batteries have a cycle life of about 300 times, up to about 500 times, while LiFePO4 batteries, cycle life of more than 2000 times, the standard charge (0.2C, 5 hours) use, can reach 2000 times. The same quality of lead-acid batteries are at most 1 to 1.5 years time, while lithium iron phosphate batteries used under the same conditions, the theoretical life will reach 7 to 8 years. Taking into account, the performance-price ratio is theoretically more than four times that of lead-acid batteries. High-current discharge can be high current 2C rapid charge and discharge, in the special charger, 1.5C charging within 40 minutes to make the battery full, starting current up to 2C, while the lead-acid batteries do not have this performance.
4. Space and Weight Efficiency
LiFePO4 battery with the same capacity is 2/3 of the size and 1/3 of the weight of a lead-acid battery, but several times the energy density of a lead-acid battery. This means you can save space for a scooter, boat, RV or solar power system.
5. Environment Friendly
LiFePO4 is generally considered to be free of any heavy metals and rare metals (NiMH batteries require rare metals), non-toxic (SGS certified and passed), non-polluting, in compliance with European RoHS regulations, and a green battery. Lead-acid and lithium nickel oxide batteries have significant environmental risks (especially lead-acid because the internal chemicals can degrade the structure as the team progresses, eventually leading to leakage).
